The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said they are investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeno peppers from Mexico that have sickened 345 people across 27 states and prompted ​a recall of affected products.

The company did not specify where the initial peppers came from but noted that the jalapeños in question were sent across multiple states to several retailers.

The Minnesota Department of Health said it had identified 110 salmonella cases in this outbreak, and the F.D.A. is also investigating.

The chain maintained that the ‘health and safety of our guests and employees is our highest priority’

The restaurant chain said it had replaced the jalapeños with product from another supplier. More than 100 cases of salmonella have been confirmed in Minnesota.
