Police said a man charged with starting a wildfire confessed to the crime, describing how he planned it for weeks and created a device to ignite a blaze that destroyed hundreds of buildings.

A detective who interviewed the man accused of starting one of the wildfires in the Spokane, Wash., area, said the man confessed, described his planning process and explained how he created a device to ignite the blaze.
